WORKS/RELICS is a collection of landscapes and still lifes by Albino Hinojosa. With a traditional approach to memory, his work conjures feelings of home. The American homeland whether it be the northern plains, eastern mountains or southern flat lands share a vintage charm that lives in the rural landscape. Transcending specifics, Hinojosa inviting the viewer to bring their own experience to the work.
His technical ability to paint life as it exists is enhanced through the use of local color, the use of space and sensitivity to a light source. He paints each component using the color objects appear to be. Hinojosa uses juxtaposes flattened surfaces with vast skies and distant lands, thus contrasting near and far allowing the viewer to imagine what exists between the two. His sensitivity to light asks the viewer to have a closer look into the subtle shifts in detail. Whether it be a tiny seed of a fruit or a car in the distance, he spares no mark creating a believable space into which one could go.
